Insurance
Here's the BIG one... the average premiums for young drivers between 17-22 have risen even higher to £1,436[1]. There are many reasons for this such as drivers in their 20s having the highest rates of drink and drug crashes and young drivers being more likely to drive at night. Running Costs
Driving an older car may seem the cheaper option at first glance, but this may not always be the case. Overall, the average repair cost for a four-year old car is £480.74[2]. Reliability
Studies have found that young drivers involved in crashes tend to be driving older vehicles[3]. Young drivers often drive older, potentially unsafe vehicles as these are cheaper. This is risky because older vehicles are less safe as they have less advanced crash protection, so crashes involving older vehicles are more likely to be fatal[4].
